The poodle originated in Germany as a water retriever. The word poodle comes from the German 'pudelnass' or puddle and from this fairly large sturdy dog, the Standard Poodle, the Miniture Poodle and the Toy Poodle have been bred. They are a very affectionate breed and known for their intelligence. They have a good sense of fun and love to retrieve, especially if it involves jumping into the water.

This is Ripley when she was a pup. We had her for one year before we decided to get company for her.	And then there was Smudge. So named because he looked like a little black smudge on the carpet when he was little. Now he was the one who REALLY enjoyed fetching, especialy if it involved jumping in to the pool.
Smudge was spoilled.	A favourite pastime. Watching the cows accross the road.
