Carbisdale Castle

The Gatehouse.

The entrance to the castle.

The foyer.

Carbisdale Castle is on the south bank of the Kyle of Sutherland. It was built between 1906 and 1917 for the Dowager Duchess of Sutherland. It is currently run as a Youth Hostel as it was given to the Scottish Youth Hostel Association in 1945.

There's a collection of italian marble statues and paintings from the 17th century. It's the most ornate Youth Hostel in the world.

There is a lovely walk from Carbisdale Castle past farmland...

...through a forrested area...

... and along a beautiful stream. See my "Walks" page.
