New Year’s Eve 2019 is upon us. I have a mango margarita in hand as we wait to board our sailboat. The skies above are grey and ominous, so I watch the dolphins from an underground viewing deck. It’s been an exhausting year that seems to be ending in contentment.

No glorious sunset was to be seen tonight, nor any whales. I gently rock back and forth with the ocean waves as we sail along. The tequila keeps me warm against the cold wind off the bow. The twinkling of cityscape lights reflects off the water. My mind is still, not thinking about the future or the past.

There is chatter on the boat about the festivities and parties that will be forthcoming. For me, it will be a quiet evening. The darkness of night envelopes all of us as we come back to the harbor. I depart quietly.
