I skip out of work a few hours early to beat the end of the Friday traffic. Life is too short for a continual 9-5 work week. It’s time to explore more of the Sedona Vortex, with a scramble up Bell Rock on my mind.
It’s early April, the time of year for the creatures and critters of the desert to come out of their winter hiding places to enjoy the warmer temperatures. I watch my steps carefully as I start up the trailhead.
Soon I’m at the base of Bell Rock, and all the trails seem to melt into the red sandstone. No cairns to mark a clear path forward. I forage ahead, and scramble my body through the brush towards the summit.

I want to get as high as possible for the sunset.
I climb to my perceived safe distance. Some more adventurous souls go further, others wave to me from below, not daring to climb as high as myself. We all have our own limits, and it’s good to know what those are.
I crack open a beer, set up a time lapse, and watch the colors bleed out onto the landscape in epic fashion.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
