While in Italy, one day I ventured with a lovely group on a tour of Pompeii. This has always been a place I’ve wanted to visit, as I find what happened there tragic, but also a perfect example of the awesome power of nature. For those who do not know, Pompeii was a thriving little city on the coast below Mount Vesuvius. Mount Vesuvius was an active volcano that erupted in 79 A.D, covering the entire city ( about 160 acres) in thick volcanic ashes, up to 60 feet high.

It is a fascinating, and haunting, experience to walk thru this perfectly preserved remnant. Glimpses of the lives of these people are shown thru what remains. Archeologists guess that the image to the left was a local watering hole used ( there were eight similar holes in one intact structure…..)

One of the most interesting places we went into was a Pompeii brothel. Little rooms with a stone bed, and pictures of people engaged in various sexual activities were drawn on the walls ( as shown here)

I could not help but wonder if these images were to depict services rendered, or if they were used as erotica. I guess we will never know…
Here is an example of one of the brothel rooms

To showcase my perception of Pompeii, and the feeling I had while walking thru this city, check it out…
