The smoke from the surrounding wildfires has half of the park in an eerie haze, the other half is full of blue skies. We wake up early and drive the Going-to-the-Sun road, making our way to the top of the National Park for our first hike.

We decide to try the Hidden lake trail.

The littles groan in typical fashion, but soon these gripes are replaced with wonder as they take in the scenery around them. The glacially carved mountains, the open landscape full of wildflowers, waterfalls and Rocky mountain sheep.

The hike is just far enough to get your blood pumping, but not overwhelming in distance or difficulty. As we get to the overview to see Hidden Lake nestled in the valley below, I feel a tiny hand grab my fingers, a small voice says…

“Wow, it’s so pretty, isn’t it?”

Indeed it is, my precious, it is all that and more…..

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
