Tourists have dissipated, and the local Native American road side shops are all but closed.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">Only the crows watch over the land.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/e5909-dsc02115.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/e5909-dsc02115.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">It is along this stretch that one can find the <a href=\"http:\/\/navajonationparks.org\/\">Little Colorado River Gorge<\/a>. A lone dirt road is my sole companion as I kick rocks in the early December morning. The signs to watch for scorpions and rattlesnakes makes me laugh.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/9b389-dsc02136.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/9b389-dsc02136.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">You don&#8217;t have to pay a fee here, and the views are spectacular. I climb to rocky precipice&#8217;s and dangle my feet over the edge to feel a surge of adrenaline.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/23d1f-img_6317.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/23d1f-img_6317.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">You can make your way out to a climatic point that gives you views both East and West, as well as straight down to the Colorado river itself.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">I turn my head and look into the camera, and see that a rare look of contentment is on my face, visible among the wrinkled lines of life and the dark circles of trials.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/e00c6-img_6308.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/e00c6-img_6308.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0I circle the trail along the edge of the Gorge for a spell in the quiet, then eventually find my way back.
