I arrived back in the Capital of Reykjav\u00edk last night<\/strong>, staying at the same hotel I was in when I begin this Icelandic Ring Road adventure. I went to sleep early so I could get an early start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today<\/strong> I head out to Iceland’s most infamous waterfall, Gullfoss. Dark skies and a light but constant rain are with me as I head back out of the city. I could have gone to Gullfoss last night, but I had a feeling that it would be packed with tourists. I am hoping that a combination of an early arrival and the rain will keep the tourists temporarily at bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The rain hardly<\/strong> lets up on the two hour drive. I make a wrong turn and end up going down a muddy road, although GPS says I’m close to Gullfoss. I turn around, and eventually make it to the Gullfoss parking lot. It’s 7 a.m. and the place is deserted. I’m not even sure I’m in the right area, as one would think I could at least hear the water…..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I get out of the car<\/strong>, and walk among the empty buildings, and find a trail. The clouds and rain make it difficult to see, but a faint roar is coming from somewhere. I keep walking….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soaked to the bone<\/strong> I am when I first set eyes upon Gulfoss. Alone I enjoy this powerful waterfall, as there is no one else around. A rarity, I think. Even with the inclement weather. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I roar like an animal to the skies<\/strong>, feeling most alive in the early morning hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
