Myths and Legends were on tap today<\/strong>\u2026
The path from Fuglafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur to Hellurnar is called Sj\u00far\u00f0arg\u00f8ta. Legend has it that a giant from Su\u00f0uroy came to the village of Oyndarfj\u00f8r\u00f0ur to test his strength. No one dared to fight him. The people of Oyndarfj\u00f8r\u00f0ur urged Sj\u00far\u00f0ur, the farmer, to challenge the giant. He wanted his youngest son, also named Sj\u00far\u00f0ur, to try. They wrestled and Sj\u00far\u00f0ur the younger beat the giant. His father paid him well for this feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

At the top of the pass Skar\u00f0i\u00f0<\/strong>, you will find two large cairns. According to old custom, each time one crosses the pass, three small stones are to be thrown at the cairns while saying: \u201cIn the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.\u201d This is meant to both protect you from getting lost and bless your trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A maid on the farm was in love with him<\/strong>, but the feelings weren\u2019t mutual. The jilted maid took revenge by insinuating that P\u00e1ll had murdered his father because the father had given the farm to his brother. P\u00e1ll was convicted of murder and imprisoned in T\u00f3rshavn, but he managed to escape from prison three times. On one of the occasions, he hid for a whole year in a cave in the rugged area under Nestindur.
The hills Hulduheyggjar are to the west as you descend from the pass. Here, the story goes, the midwife of Dalb\u00f8ur in Fuglafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur aided a Huldre woman (a type of rock troll) in childbirth, a service for which she was richly rewarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another story <\/strong>says that the farmer in Oyndafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur and a farmer in Fuglafj\u00f8r\u00f0ur named Gullbrandur fought over land. Gullbrandur was killed and hid in the cave Gullbrandshelli\u00f0 and later buried in Gullbrandslei\u00f0i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
