{"id":2068,"date":"2014-09-24T02:33:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-24T02:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/2014\/09\/24\/motor-city"},"modified":"2021-09-17T04:54:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T11:54:38","slug":"motor-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/?p=2068","title":{"rendered":"Motor City"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p>After the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/exhibits\/featured_documents\/emancipation_proclamation\/\">Emancipation Proclamation<\/a> of Jan. 1st, 1863 slowly opened the doors of freedom, I was intrigued with the history of Detroit and the folks that fled the South to work and live in this area after the Civil War.<\/p>\n<p>Folks that helped build our USA automobile industry, and changed music forever with the Motown sound.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/1660c-snapseed11.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/1660c-snapseed11.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>I wanted to see the city that was bankrupted from our economic disaster, and the decay left behind from the debacle.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to see survivalism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/c36a5-snapseed16.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/c36a5-snapseed16.jpg?resize=640%2C172&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"172\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>All I heard were the words &#8221; Don&#8217;t go downtown&#8221;, &#8221; make sure you carry a piece&#8221;, &#8221; be careful, my friend&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I found all this frustrating and inaccurate. Detroit was beautiful. The architecture in decay were pieces of art immortalized, only waiting for someone to love them and bring them back to life.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/e44b3-snapseed5.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/e44b3-snapseed5.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The people friendly and helpful.
