I’ve almost been to every State in the USA<\/strong>. I have North Dakota, Hawaii, Mississippi, Connecticut, Delaware, and Indiana to still see. Alabama was on this list until my Christmas 2024 holiday to the sleepy seaside community of Fort Morgan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not sure if international travel<\/strong> is going to continue to happen for me, at least for awhile, as I need to focus on hopefully retiring in 2033. So while I save my pennies, if I can swing in a trip over the holidays, it will most likely be in the USA. Which I am fine with, as their is so much to see and explore here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A winter storm<\/strong> was raging in the Gulf of Mexico, dumping large amounts of rain across the region. I get my rental car in Florida and make my way to Fort Morgan in the dark and pouring rain. I hope that the storm lets up and I’m not stuck inside my entire time here. I check into my rental property easily enough, then try to sleep while the thunder and lightning continue outside. I’m hoping the skies clear in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My luck prevailed<\/strong>, as the storms quickly left the next day, leaving beautiful clouds and ocean views for me to enjoy. I’m right on the beach, so strolls up and down fill my mornings and afternoons. The community here is just homes, no stores, restaurants or bars. It’s quiet and people just sip cocktails and enjoy the waves crashing onto the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drive fifteen miles <\/strong>to the next closest town to get food. I cook meals for myself when hungry, sleep often, drink when thirsty. This was not a trip filled with daily excursions, I was 100% on my own time, and didn’t do much other than hang out on the deck or walk in the sand, looking at the strange creatures that would wash up on shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was exactly the type of vacation<\/strong> I needed, and Fort Morgan is the perfect place to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico in solitary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
