{"id":2684,"date":"2013-09-27T00:23:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T00:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/2013\/09\/27\/the-cemetery-final-thoughts-at-terezin"},"modified":"2021-09-22T06:16:55","modified_gmt":"2021-09-22T13:16:55","slug":"the-cemetery-final-thoughts-at-terezin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/?p=2684","title":{"rendered":"the cemetery (final thoughts at Terezin)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">As we drove a short distance from the city of Terezin to the cemetery where the holocaust victims were laid to rest, the van was silent except for muffled sobs and sniffling.\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Slowly walking down the tree lined gravel path, we all held hands as the grave markers came into our view.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/29d12-img_0307-cr2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/29d12-img_0307-cr2.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Thousands of Czech Jews lost their lives here from the Nazi regime. Most grave markers only have numbers, as names were lost among the multitude of bodies.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/82b84-img_0308-cr2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/82b84-img_0308-cr2.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>The crematorium used during World War Two still stands, although locked down and secured from public view of the interior out of respect for those that lost their lives inside. An owl, a Nazi symbol of Death, still hangs from the exterior.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/e1e8a-img_0316-cr2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/e1e8a-img_0316-cr2.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>One really can&#8217;t put into words the feeling you have in a place such as this.
