{"id":3249,"date":"2012-11-22T17:18:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-22T17:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/2012\/11\/22\/upper-antelope-part-3"},"modified":"2025-07-11T14:14:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T21:14:41","slug":"upper-antelope-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/?p=3249","title":{"rendered":"Upper Antelope (part 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">It&#8217;s mid morning when we pull up to the entrance of Upper Antelope.<br \/>More cars and safari vans are also parked here, which is a shock since the tour so far has only been the three of us and our guide.\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the most infamous of the canyons though, and as we enter the first room, you see why&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/d2f2e-dsc02622.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/d2f2e-dsc02622.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Upper Antelope is unique in that the top of the canyon is very narrow ( you can jump across it if one were allowed), and then opens to expansive rooms at the canyon&#8217;s floor. The sunlight shines down from the cracks at the top, creating light beams.<\/p>\n<p>The walls constantly are changing colors due to the minerals in the stone. You put your camera flush against the wall, point up, and capture surreal images.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/8d408-dsc02594.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/8d408-dsc02594.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Mother nature uses her tools of wind and water to shape artwork such as El Corazon ( the heart),<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/57530-dsc02615.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/57530-dsc02615.jpg?resize=266%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"266\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>and a scene that to my imagination appears to be ocean waves frozen in time&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/c6c4b-img_2137.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/c6c4b-img_2137.jpg?resize=640%2C478&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"478\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Like sand in an hourglass, the patience of the earth is an unstoppable force, yielding incredible results over many a millennium.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/9eb6a-dsc02617.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/9eb6a-dsc02617.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>As we left Upper Antelope and broke for lunch, I found a roadside stand selling Navajo tacos, two dollars each.
