{"id":3399,"date":"2012-09-15T01:03:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-15T01:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/2012\/09\/15\/on-the-road-to-the-most-photographed-hotel-in-the-world"},"modified":"2021-09-15T04:03:00","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T11:03:00","slug":"on-the-road-to-the-most-photographed-hotel-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mywalkabout.net\/?p=3399","title":{"rendered":"on the road to the most photographed hotel in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">My GPS indicates that it will take about two hours to drive from Lake McDonald in West Glacier, over the &#8220;going to the Sun&#8221; road through the national park, then crossing the border into Alberta, Canada and onto my final destination of the Waterton International Peace Park.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/f6bbe-dsc02390.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/f6bbe-dsc02390.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>GPS doesn&#8217;t take into account nature&#8217;s beauty though, and this is one drive that you need to slow down and soak in your surroundings. It took me a little over six hours, and worth every second.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/0a1f3-dsc02395.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/0a1f3-dsc02395.jpg?resize=640%2C364&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"364\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>This part of Alberta is a stark contrast of open fields of endless grain and towering glacier carved mountains. As I arrived at the park entrance, I asked the fellow for directions to the <a href=\"http:\/\/glacierparkinc.com\/prince_of_wales.php\">Prince of Wales<\/a> hotel.<br \/><i>&#8220;just follow the road mate, you can&#8217;t miss it&#8230;.&#8221;<\/i><br \/>and he couldn&#8217;t have been more correct.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/68c34-dsc02442.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/68c34-dsc02442.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Touted as the most photographed hotel in the world, the Prince of Wales had a wonderful air of European charm, from the staff dressed in Swiss and German attire, to the elevator that could only fit two people at a time, one of them being the person that had to operate it.<\/p>\n<p>The lobby had the sweet smell of aged oak and wine, with giant windows that overlooked Lake Waterton.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/8f693-dsc02388-001.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/8f693-dsc02388-001.jpg?resize=640%2C426&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>As I carried my bags up the stairs to the fifth floor, I marveled at the eccentricity of the fixtures, the room doors that all required actual keys to open, the old 1920&#8217;s style exit signs.
