It is remarkable to me how one can drive a mere twenty miles outside of Boston and find yourself immersed in a wooded area so thick and green with foliage. Quaint and historic towns are hidden from view, as if to be cut off from the outside world.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

It is this type of quiet solitude that most likely inspired Henry David Thoreau<\/a> to live at Walden<\/a> for a two year experiment, or in his words ” I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life”.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\n

Having read the book Walden in college, the idea to visit this place has always been with me. As one walks along the trail around the pond, listening to the forest come alive with the scurrying of furry creatures underfoot and the chirping from above, you feel a sense of what Thoreau was looking for.<\/p>\n

I remember souls of the past that have been here before, walking the path as I. Great leaders of nations, poets and philosophers, family and friends.<\/p>\n

To be at ( would many call) the start of the Conservation movement is a humbling experience indeed.<\/p>\n
