It&#8217;s a love\/hate relationship I have with this place, for many reasons that I will not go into here. What I want to do though, is give you a visualization of my travels there&#8230;.<\/span><\/h5>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/871f4-img_0661.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/871f4-img_0661.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">In Southeast Arizona\u00a0I found myself thinking that this place is truly one of the last vestiges of the &#8220;Old West&#8221;. Endless open miles of desert landscapes, sparsely populated with the occasion smattering of tiny towns such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofwillcox.org\/\">Willcox<\/a>\u00a0, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arizonaghosttowntrails.com\/camprucker.html\">Rucker<\/a>\u00a0, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghosttowns.com\/states\/az\/doscabezas.html\">Dos Cabezas<\/a>\u00a0, and my ultimate final destination of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citytowninfo.com\/places\/arizona\/douglas\">Douglas<\/a>\u00a0. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/78f94-img_0665.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/78f94-img_0665.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">I find both beauty and heartache in this land, and think to myself about the mindset of the people living here. Are they trapped in this existence, or do they find solitude and peace in the nothingness?<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/39c2c-img_0668.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/39c2c-img_0668.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">There are secret wonders to behold, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.americansouthwest.net\/arizona\/chiricahua\/national_monument.html\">Chiricahua National Monument<\/a>\u00a0,a little known National Park that I sometimes visit when time allows. ( the park below covered in morning fog)<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/e756f-img_0664.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/e756f-img_0664.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">But mostly I find nothing but desolation here. It reminds me of the feeling I have watching such films as No Country for Old Men, or even the Mad Max movies. Being a solitary person myself,\u00a0I wonder why I do not relish this part of the country more? Maybe the stark reality of such an isolated place is more than I can handle&#8230;.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/1c5da-img_0669.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/1c5da-img_0669.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Or maybe I am just road weary, as I travel two hours each day from my hotel to Douglas and back again. Two hours of the same blissful, endless scenery. I try to find different routes ( dirt paths) to break up the monotony, but even that has it&#8217;s consequences as I found out this last trip. As I was venturing up a lonely highway road such as this&#8230;.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/90b16-img_0662.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/90b16-img_0662.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">I found a Border Patrol car appear out of nowhere, following me. I was not speeding or\u00a0swerving, being a perfect little citizen of our country. He proceeded to follow me for approximately 10 miles, then suddenly flipped on his flashing &#8221; pull over&#8221; lights. I found this curiously amusing at first, wondering what was the reason ( tail light out on the rented vehicle, etc&#8230;). but my amusement quicked turned to irked irritation as I was removed from my car, patted down, and my body and car thoroughly searched. Apparently he thought I was smuggling drugs or people ( remember that I am about 50 feet from the mexican border in Douglas) . My biggest problem with this whole adventure was the apparent lack of PROBABLE CAUSE!!<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Isn&#8217;t that still needed in America?<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">After 20 minutes of having my civil rights violated, I was released and continued on my journey. I had a 4 hour drive up to the <a href=\"http:\/\/azwhitemountains.net\/\">White Mountains of Showlow<\/a>\u00a0. The best ( and only) good part about this drive is going thru the canyon to get to my destination. There is this spectacular canyon which divides the San Carlos Apache reservation from the White Mountain Apache reservation.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/0a303-img_0670.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/0a303-img_0670.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">It really is something to see, and after driving thru it for almost 7 years now, I finally stopped to get out and enjoy the scenery.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\">\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/5211f-img_0671.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/5211f-img_0671.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family: inherit; border: medium none -moz-use-text-color;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Many people that visit Show low find it to be a quaint, beautiful little town. I find it to be a hole. Another place I find baffling that people choose to live in year round. Maybe these people are trying to escape or hide from society. My little trip advisory if you ever find yourself in this part of the USA.
