I soon find myself in the total black of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oregon.com\/attractions\/lava-river-cave\">Lava River cave<\/a>.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">You have no guide, only the occasional glimpses of another explorer&#8217;s light ahead of you.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">I carry on.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/a523e-img_4944.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/a523e-img_4944.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">Slow is the only way to proceed down here, as the cave floor has sudden drops in the unstable rock. My eyes start to adjust to adjust to the darkness like a bat, my hands feel for the cave edges as I reach out for some comfort.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">Luckily, my lantern burns brightly.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/f43b3-img_4945.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/f43b3-img_4945.jpg?resize=640%2C480&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">One mile down, and the cave tube is diminishing in circumference quickly, forcing me to crawl on hands and knees until I reach a sign stating to go no further due to instability.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: right;\">The quiet stillness is unnerving and calming in equal amounts.
