What I found out though is that snow levels are not taken into account on today&#8217;s modern devices.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/99045-g0327796.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/99045-g0327796.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A clearing in the road was filled with trucks and empty snowmobile trailers. The snow covered road was filled with the tracks of the machines, but all was silent around me.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I start hiking upward, leaving <a href=\"http:\/\/visitpagosasprings.com\/\">Pagosa <\/a>behind me.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/b255e-img_2505.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/b255e-img_2505.jpg?resize=640%2C148&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"148\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A couple of miles in and I see another soul, the first since I started hiking, his two large dogs leap on me. <i>&#8220;Don&#8217;t worry, they&#8217;re friendly&#8221;<\/i>, shouts the stranger.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">He asks if I&#8217;m from around here, I smile and shake my head, realizing we are both lost wanderers in the mountains. Parting ways, I continue to climb.<a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/5aa76-g0327795.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mywalkabout.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/5aa76-g0327795.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" border=\"0\"\/><\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A couple more miles in and I finally see a sign. It has my final destination listed, but it&#8217;s another 6.8 miles. I discover that this trail is for summer hikers when you can drive closer to the trail head.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There was only a couple hours of daylight left, or perhaps I would have carried on.
