# Lake Mead - Link: https://mywalkabout.net/lake-mead/ - Published: 2018-06-19T05:47:08-07:00 - Author: My Walkabout Perhaps the last time I was on a jet ski was spring break in 1996 when I went to Lake Havasu with some friends. Maybe it was with my last serious girlfriend when we went to Bear Lake in Utah. Regardless, it’s been a damn long time, and this needed to be remedied. Lake Mead was only five hours away, and a wild hair came upon my senses one day to rent a jet ski here for the day. The morning weather is perfect, with puffy white clouds dotting the mountain tops. The temperature was in the 70’s, and shouldn’t get above 85. I walk the pier to its conclusion, get a crash course on Jet ski safety, and next thing I know I’m on the water…..I cruise on over to the mighty Hoover Dam, ( the first of many trips throughout the day) to see this architectural marvel. It gets to me each and every time.My machine is a power horse, and I race over the open water, hitting a top speed of 73 miles per hour. It’s an exhilarating adrenaline rush. I fry my skin like bacon in a skillet, red and crispy. I find quiet beaches to drink beer and take short naps. I spend a full eight hours on the waters of Lake Mead exploring every nook and cranny of her landscape. The long break from being on a Jet ski only solidifies the joy you can find in eventually returning to something you love.
