I leave the Coronado Cave and jump back on the dirt road that seems to wind up the mountainside. I reach the top to find that the road ends, but connections to the Arizona Trail head both North and South.

I choose to go South.

It’s only been a few weeks since our country has had a new President. I’ve heard that all the border wall construction was halted as soon the new administration took office. A co-worker’s husband did lose his job with this change, which makes me sad.

As far as politics go, I stopped following social media months before the election, as it was affecting my mental health. I’d rather live in the dark than be manipulated and deceived by both parties.

Seeing things with my own eyes is the best way for me to draw my own conclusions. Along the Yaqui Ridge trail I go, wondering if I’ll even be able to make it to the border, as I envision border patrol guards, watch dogs and guns, military machines rolling along in the desert.

No one is out hiking, which makes me think that the government is out here somewhere preventing people from getting close to the border. I come to some yellow police tape that may have been put up at some point in time as a deterrent, but the tape had been cut.

I continue along, soaking in the marvelous desert views.

I walk right up the the border. No one is here. It is a surreal yet peaceful feeling. I try to understand all points of view, but I do not see a problem, other than an unfinished project in the middle of the desert.
