My nephew moved in with me in August so he could pursue his love of pole vaulting while going to college here. I was excited for him to experience life outside of his home State, as well as having some company for the next year or so. August is easily the worst month to move down to the Phoenix area, but it also a great month to showcase the rest of the State and to see how a two hour drive can drop the temperatures significantly so that one can enjoy the outdoors.

We go up to the Mogollon Rim, starting from East to West. It’s the perfect place to try out a new drone, take in the beauty of the area, and to look for deer and elk.

Next we head down to Tonto Natural Bridge to go exploring. The water falling off the bridge opening was so refreshing and cool. It’s been years since I first came here, so it was a treat for both of us as we climbed and scrambled through this area.
Feeling hungry, we find a spot in Pine to get a bite at a local pub/pizza oven. The pie was amazing, and they were nice enough to let us grab a couple of seats at the bar even though my nephew isn’t old enough to technically sit there. Northern Arizona locals are usually pretty lax about this kind of stuff. Satisfied with our weekend adventures and full bellies, we head back home. Cbug is impressed, and I look forward to more adventures with him as I show off my favorites places here.
