Family fishing by a mountain reservoir with rocky shore and calm water

Can we go fishing tomorrow?

HC looks at Lilliepad and smiles. “We could fish from shore if you would like, and maybe CBug will go with us for good luck. He is an expert fisherman.” Cbug looks up from his phone and smiles and shakes his head, although whether it is in agreement is debatable.

A child wearing a hat stands by a rocky shoreline, gazing at a serene lake surrounded by lush green grass and yellow wildflowers under a blue sky with scattered clouds.

Cbug has to register for some college courses at 930 a.m. so we get a later start than usual towards the lake, but no one is bothered by it. HC just wants time with them, as it is rare to have it just be the three of us. Chicken Ladders it is.

The lake is beautiful this morning, as swarms of swallows feed on bugs overhead and pelicans float around us. We set up on the shoreline, and HC teaches Lilliepad how to cast. We talk about life as only a ten year old can. HC snags a beautiful cutthroat trout, and Lilliepad is in awe of it’s fight to survive. We teach her how to gently remove the hook and release it back into the water.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
