Standing on the Alabama shores of the Fort Morgan historic site is where one can catch the ferry to Dauphin Island on the other side of the bay. On New Year’s Eve 2024 I decided to walk instead of drive onto the ferry to save a little money, as well as get some exercise in while exploring Dauphin…

The ferry ride itself took less than half an hour, time spent watching seabirds and oil drilling rig platforms scattered out in the ocean. When I arrived in Dauphin, I see that the town is a few miles from the pier. I spent most of my time here just walking, finding the town square decorated for the Christmas Holidays, eventually finding a bar that was open for brunch. I saddle up to a window table and watch the big college football championship while sipping on a bloody mary and some southern grits.
With a full belly and a little buzz, I make my way back to the pier to catch the afternoon boat back to Fort Morgan so I can more properly settle in for the last night of 2024…..
