Last week at the movies vol. 5
Another week has gone by, and it was a busy one for me at my local Regal theater as I saw five movies last week. Let’s get into it.
I started the week by heading back to the theater to see Avengers Endgame Encore. The four extra added scenes didn’t really get me more excited for the upcoming Doomsday movie, but it did remind me of how much I love the emotional highs of this epic story coming to its conclusion. I still got chills, a little teary eyes, and had a great time watching this again on the big screen.
“I love you 3000.”
“No amount of money ever bought a second of time.”
“And I… am… Iron Man.”
Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior. I originally thought I would be seeing the Mad Max movie that had Tina Turner in it, but soon realized that movie was released after this one. So I had never seen The Road Warrior before. A young Mel Gibson, a fantastic post apocalyptic world in the Australian desert, and a strange but at the same time relatable story about corporate greed around oil destroying our planet. Pretty prophetic for the times we find ourselves in today. Additionally, the stunts and set pieces with no CGI are impressive, with a final act that stunned me in the best possible way.
Heart of the Beast. A new release last month that stars Brad Pitt and one amazing canine companion. The story is simple yet very moving, and the dog is undoubtedly the star of this film. I loved everything about it. It made me appreciate the sacrifices members of the military make, how important our pets are to us, and that we can not take Nature for granted.
Probably the most talked about and controversial movie released so far this year is Digger. I will not spoil the movie premise here, but I will say that I really liked what this movie was trying to say. It will not be for everyone, but it should be a movie that people should appreciate even if it didn’t necessarily entertain you as you watched it.
October is here, and so horror movies from the decades past will be released at theaters this month. I started October with a classic Stanley Kubrick film, The Shining. The director is easily my favorite director of movies, and I was obsessed with Stephen King books in my youth. I love this movie so much that I have stayed not only in the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado as well as the Timberline Lodge just below Mount Hood in Oregon. The former hotel is were many of the interior scenes were filmed, and the exterior of the hotel is from the latter. The performances in the movie still grip and haunt me, no matter how many times I have watched.
