Last week at the movies vol. 9
Good day and welcome to November and the start of the Holiday season. I had a great time at the movies last week, seeing two independent films that were first shown back at the Sundance film festival earlier this year, but now have theatrical releases. Let’s get into it :
Wicker is the most original, heartwarming, and unique movie that I have seen in quite awhile. High praise for the sound design in this film. I laughed, and found it quite relatable. Olivia Coleman is fantastic, but the entire cast is wonderful. What starts as a raunchy little diddy turns into a poignant story about self, connection and what love can truly be.
The Only Living Pickpocket in New York is quintessentially a film about life in the five boroughs and shows New York in a lovingly real sense, from the buildings to the subways and taxi’s. Imagine being a pickpocket in today’s world of no one carrying cash with most financial transactions being digital. It looks at a day in the life of such a man, and how one’s action has devastating results. I loved the character study, the performances, and the messages within this film. It is amazing.
