Motor City

While most everyone is either seeing The Odyssey or waiting with baited breath to see the new Spiderman : Brand New Day film that releases this weekend, if you are wanting to see a movie inbetween, I might suggest Motor City. What is Motor City about, you might ask? I do not consider this a spoiler, but rather good information to have so you are not surprised. This is a action, revenge, love triangle tale that has almost no dialogue.
You read that correctly. Almost No Dialogue. That premise intrigued me greatly. I mean, I have seen silent films (not really my thing), and I’ve seen movies that you couldn’t hear the dialogue (Tenet anyone?), but I hadn’t seen a film that intentionally had hardly any speaking lines. And I believe it worked. It more than worked, this film is fantastic.
If a film isn’t going to have any dialogue, then the actors and scenes need to really portray emotion as well as tell a story. Surprisingly, this one did that in spades. Also, the soundtrack is incredible, with great songs of all genres from the 1970’s. In hindsight it shouldn’t be a surprise since the film is set in 1977 Detroit.
It might be marketed as an action movie, especially with it’s lead actor being known as the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, but this movie is much more of a drama and suspense movie, with the action getting cranked up in the final act. I hope that people will go see this if it sounds like your type of movie, or if you are just looking for something different from the norm.
