Ken Patrick, beloved and dedicated Park Ranger, was slain on August 5th, 1973, in the line of duty at Point Reyes National Seashore.
Mr. Patrick, affectionately known as “Old Jim”, had been assigned to the North Rim for several seasons. He knew and loved this area, and thus this trail was named in his memory.
The Old Jim trail has vistas that will take your breath away no matter how many times you view them. Hiking along the rim, the treeline breaks to open up this panoramic window of nature.
Each time you stop to take it in, Indian flute notes seem to escape from the canyon.
It was a day where the clouds seemed to loom a tad longer, the animals chatter just a bit louder, and your individual presence is a little smaller…
as life is focused and put into perspective.
Get out there and do what you love, what you were made for.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
