Not all desert oasis’s are actually found in the desert itself. Sometimes one needs to go to the top of a mountain range. High above Tucson in the Catalina mountains you can find such a place, Summerhaven.
Summerhaven is a small mountain community in the Sky Island district. The temperatures up here are at least 20-25 degrees cooler the Tucson itself, making it the perfect place to enjoy the 4th of July holiday out of the brutal Arizona summer heat down in the valley below.

The cabin has a record player with classic bluegrass artist records that one can select from. I play Bill Monroe loudly with the windows open as I grill up some classic BBQ. A summer storm is brewing in the sky outside, putting on quite the show.

Adirondack Chairs and a porch swing making summer reading with coffee a dream. Birds sing throughout the day as I watch the shadows from the sun move East to West. The stars eventually come out to display an encore performance in the night time skies.

Summerhaven is a mountain lover’s paradise. Quiet, cool and peaceful. I hike the Sky Island viewpoints on my final day as I slowly drive back down the mountain.
