I have always dreamed of having a little garden where I could enjoy a morning cup of coffee, letting the sun rise and warm my skin as flowers bloom and the earth awakens. Living in Arizona I don’t get this much during the summertime, as it usually gets too hot, even at mid-morning. However, being in Utah this summer has let me take the time to enjoy cool mornings in the garden that my brother and his wife have lovingly created.

Two decorative metal heron sculptures with blue and silver feathers, set against a backdrop of green foliage and pebbles.

I asked them when they found the time to have such a green thumb. They laughed and said that they had a professional come to put in the plants, but the vegetable garden, putting green, hot tub and gazebo were all done themselves with hard work and love.

Slow mornings after they go to work allow me to sip a cup of coffee while their dog lays besides me as I scratch her belly. I wander through the tomato and cucumber plants looking for my breakfast and lunch for the day. The most beautiful of butterflies sits on a leaf and shows off brilliant colors and patterns that only Mother Nature can create. It truly is my place of Zen and Peace.

I have a little over a week left up here before I head back home. I do miss our Saguaro Cactus and desert landscapes, the dry heat and comforts of one’s own house. But of all of the things I’ve done while up here, the family and friends I have been surrounded with, I think I’ll miss my mornings in the garden the most.

Do you have a little garden that makes you feel the same way?

  1. I loved the idea of slow mornings in the garden with coffee, fresh vegetables, and butterflies. It sounds like a perfect little escape.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
