The time has come for my yearly sabbatical out to Joshua Tree. This year I’ll be there over Halloween, although no trick or treaters will come knocking on my door.

My homestead cabin is located at the Top of the World, far from little ones looking for sweet treats. It’s a place of extreme isolation, one of many reasons I keep returning to this special area.

It’s a simple one room homestead, no TV or internet, with an outdoor shower that looks like a nuclear bomb shelter. I also have a vintage RV trailer with additional accommodations, but I won’t be needing that.

My grand plans of biking and hiking fall apart soon after my arrival. The desert light begs to be watched, filmed, captured….as if it is the last show of the evening.

Rabbits scurry to and fro around me as I bring the sweet Bloody Mary to my lips, the copper mug full of the earth’s deep energy stinging my tongue.

The most omnious sunset illuminates the sky as I prepare for my own version of Halloween. Out here I can be whomever I want to be, without judgement. So let it be written, so let it be done.
