As I landed at Glacier International Airport last August, I couldn’t help but think about the last time I was in this area with the family, which was in the summer of 2004. We drove up here from Utah, and had one grand kid at the time, and she was two years old.

Fourteen years later most of us return. My parents didn’t come, but the rest of my brothers did with their families in tow (I now have four nieces and a nephew). We get a little cabin in the woods just outside of the park.

Glacier is a very special place in general, but especially so to me. My goal this trip was to pass on my love of Glacier to my littles.

Little Lillie goes hiking with a hot dog roasting stick and the spunkiest attitude for a four year old. She tells me she hates hiking as she runs along the forest path and to the glacial rivers edge.

My sweet Flooey is equal parts fragile and fierce. I want to just hold and protect her every time I see her. She is a trooper as we hike in the mountains, and tries new adventures with me, from paddle boarding to river rafting. I hope she loves the outdoors as much as I do.

Cbug is now twelve, a glorious yet confusing age for a boy. He reminds me so much of myself. His free and adventurous spirit always put a smile on my face.

Crazy legs. It’s hard to believe you were two years old the last time we were here. So strong she is, both in her heart as well as her body.

Finally, my newest niece, little Hope. Only a little over a year old, with the bluest eyes I’ve seen. They pierce my soul with the pure goodness that twinkles from them. Her smile and giggles light up our world.

Aye, family reunions are so good for my soul.
