The month of August was here. A trip that was two plus years in the making was finally a reality. Due to nightmare stories about delays at London’s Heathrow airport I decided to change my flight last minute so that I could arrival three days before my trek starts in Glasgow, just in case I got delayed somewhere else.

Yet everything worked out just fine. I will use these few days to explore Glasgow thoroughly, and get in some good walking miles in & around the city.

I check in at Central Station, in the heart of downtown. The feel of old buildings and history come flooding back to me in spades. Glasgow certainly has more of an industrialised feel to it than Edinburgh, but I like what I’m seeing nonetheless.

I grab a couple of pints and some fish and chips at the Drum & Monkey, then call it an early night.

The next morning I start off early just walking the quiet streets. I find the oldest cathedral in town, as well as a sacred cemetery just beyond the church.

I clock in around ten walking miles on day one, and my body is feeling good. I’m loving it here, and prepare for day two and the places that my legs may take me.

I continue along the river until I reach The Great Ship, which I believe was the actual name of this mighty vessel of yesteryear. I explore the bowels and decks, imagining what life on this would have been like one hundred years ago.

Safe and comfortable I feel wandering around the streets and alleyways. With almost a month in country, I’m glad to have so easily settled into this land, like butter slowly melting over warm bread.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
