A family of quails dart along the dirt road that H.C. is traveling, then disappear quickly into the desert brush. He finds the gates to Peralta Park locked this morning, which crushes his initial plans.

To H.C.’s surprise though, he stumbles upon a new parking area for the East Lost Dutchman trailhead. “mental notes to self, return in November to hike“

The goal this morning though is to continue working on his skills with a drone. Finding a nice quiet place in the desert is step one, as H.C. doesn’t want to disturb any early morning hikers or campers with the drone noise. No one is out here except for the quails….

As the sun starts to rise, H.C. takes in the majesty of the surrounding mountains, listening for Javelina or perhaps the rattle of a snake, but the air is silent. The summer thus far has been relatively mild, unlike last year’s record of 100 plus days over one hundred degrees. Today’s it’s in the low eighties at 5:30 a.m.

H.C. finds new ways to capture Nature with his drone, and looks forward to getting back home to see what lies hidden in the footage.
