I got early access to Coyote vs. Acme

Looney Tunes cartoons are the first memories of TV that I can recall. Not only that, but I also clearly remember that many of the cartoons were saying much more than just fodder to entertain young minds. Case in point being the Bugs Bunny cartoon about nuclear war.

So clever they have been, and I have collectors editions of some of these classic shows. When I first heard about the Coyote vs. Acme movie, I’ll admit I was personally excited, but also wondered, who would go and see this movie? Younger people most likely have no idea about Looney Tunes, little kids definitely wouldn’t and parents wouldn’t want to spend money on something that wouldn’t entertain the kids, even though they might like it. I was thinking that my demographic might be the only ones slightly interested. So when my local Regal theater had a early access screening yesterday for this, I got a ticket and conducted a little experiment to observe what (if any) type of people showed up, and how they responded to the film.

To my delight and surprise, the theater had a healthy amount of people inside. Not a surprise to me was many of them were single guys like me, or some with a friend. I think only one group had kids with them, young teenagers if I was to hazard a guess. During the movie, there was a good amount of laughter to be had, most of it landed with those of us old enough to get the references to the cartoons of our childhood, but some jokes were more modern and up to date with the world today.

After thinking about the movie, I enjoyed it, but wished it could have good a little harder on the story it was trying to tell. It felt a bit too safe, and I think the movie would probably do better if it was a little edgy, and not trying to play to all audiences. But that was just me, what about you? I also remembered that Mel Blanc did all (or at least most) of the voice works for the Looney Tunes characters. That is true talent my friends.
