I have renewed hope for the MCU after Spiderman : Brand New Day

Skip this if you do not want to know anything about the new Spiderman movie. I have been let down more than excited after many of the MCU movies were released. The excitement, world building and inter-connected stories that came with the movies released from 2008-2019 was lacking (to say the least) in this current decade.

High hopes did I have after Disney Plus released WandaVision, and I was all on board transitioning from film to TV as a way to expand our characters and their individual stories. That feeling didn’t last long, as was replaced with one of mis-direction and no clear idea of where anything was going. It felt like projects were being done solely for greed, with the expectation that it’s core audience would pay for and watch anything put in front of us.

Finally though, I feel as though the MCU has it’s mojo back with Spiderman : Brand New Day. This movie had heart, true emotional stakes, and characters that you truly care about. It also had an antagonist that was interesting and relatable, and not a throw away villan that was killed at the end of the movie. I gasped and was in awe during several scenes, some of which still got to me upon my second viewing. I laughed, got teary-eyed, and smiled with joy and excitement as the movie ended.

I’m looking forward to see what Marvel does with the X-men characters going forward. But what about you? Have you seen it? Do you care about the MCU?

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
