Keep Austin Weird”
From the moment I stepped off the plane, I saw this phrase everywhere :
signs, t-shirts, mugs, etc….
I had a few days to see if I could figure out why the city was so weird in the first place, and then hypothesize as to why Austin wanted to stay that way….

As I aimlessly wandered the streets to the music and cultural section of town, I saw nothing that grabbed my attention. Skyscrapers and high rise condominiums overshadowed countless bars, clubs and restaurants. I did however enjoy some of the best chicken tacos EVER with a tasty lager to boot.

Steers are a Texas icon, so although I enjoyed running into these massive bulls while hiking the hills, I’m not sure that they are why Austin wants to stay weird.
I found the people to be friendly and strange, just how I like them. If that is what Austinite’s are referring to, please don’t change my friends…

It could be the fascination with Willie Nelson, but with a music venue like Austin City Limits, what isn’t there to be proud of?
So I was stumped, perplexed, even mystified. I didn’t see the city as being overly weird, definitely not so much so as to make it a citywide declaration to “Keep Austin weird”.

I thought it had just the right amount of weirdness.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
