My nephew moved down to Arizona to go to college here, but the biggest reason for the move was to continue his passion for pole vaulting. The track team at Mesa Community had a major coaching upheaval right after he got here. He stuck with it though, and I finally had a chance to see him in action at a meet at in the Valley.
I loved the college atmosphere as I watched the different schools compete in various track & field events. When the PV competition started, I was enthralled watching my nephew do his thing. I became a worried parent though when his pole broke and it looked like he impaled himself.
Luckily he just had a nasty skin scrap, but it was painful, hobbling his competition this time around. Looking forward to hopefully seeing one or two more meets before the season is over.
