“Though she be but little, she is fierce.”
I could tell my niece was nervous as hell, but she wanted to be brave in front of her older cousins. Her Dad and Step Mom took her two younger sisters for a nice and leisurely day of shopping at Apgar Village in Glacier. As they drove off, she squeezed my hand a little tighter as I asked her if she was excited to go river rafting.
“I don’t know, I’ve never done it before!”
Her parents got divorced four years earlier, and it fractured this little girl. She has come a long way rebuilding her self esteem and confidence for someone so young.
There is nothing like the freedom of the outdoors and the spirit of a new adventure to help one overcome their fears and grow into a stronger spirit. Not only did she brave the rapid waters, and the occasional bursts of cold wind and rain, but our amazing rafting guide nurtured her along and promoted her to Junior Float Guide!
He had no idea what he did for this little girl. Her smile though says it all.
