Work brings me to Tucson, and I stay an extra day to go walk Sabino canyon in the early morning before temperatures become unsafe.

95 degrees just before 7 a.m. as I park and ready myself. Partly cloudy but little chance of rain today. Less than two months before my solo hiking adventure across the pond, and I’m fully aware that I’m not in either the physical nor mental shape that I would like. Maybe this morning walk will be the kick start my body needs to try and be ready…..

On my return down from the canyon, I cross paths with a pack of Javelinas. Fascinating creatures they are. Adults and babies make their way across the road, paying little attention to me.

I stay a safe distance as they cross the road. Five miles done before 10 a.m.

Legs feel fine, yet I know that this is just a small drop in the bucket in comparison to what I’ll need my body to accomplish.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
