I leave Southern Utah before the sun rises on Thanksgiving morning. Four plus hours later, I arrive in Salt Lake City to be reunited with family. No masks, social distancing or forced outdoor dinners this year.

Quiet times for me, mostly spent with one brother’s family. I do get a few others to come to a movie on Saturday, and others of us go to the utah football game on the Friday after the Holiday.

The distance of being away for such long periods of time though are draining me physically as well as emotionally. People grow and change, making me feel lost.

Relationships I once thought were strong are fading into the dark night.

My parents will die this decade, and I already know the regret I’ll feel once they are gone.

Every time I return to see them, the more sad I become.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
