We enter the infamous Biltmore House, and start up the grand staircase. This is the first time that I’ve actually been inside the home, and my eyes are amazed with what I see inside. Yet today is not about the grandeur of the rooms within Biltmore, but about accessing the roof.

We enter a side room at the top of the staircase, which we are told was George Vanderbilt’s favorite room to read and relax. From here we exit a tiny door that takes us outside. The views up here really showcase the beauty of the land. Gargoyles watch over us as protective stone guardians. The intricacy of the architecture and the details in the metal structures showcase the money and the vision of George.

We walk like chimney sweepers of old along the rooftop. I can’t wait until tomorrow to continue my tour of the inside of the home.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
