They say that life is all about the little things. I’m not quite sure what that even means, but perhaps my discovery of the Lair O’ the Bear park in Idledale can help me understand that phrase.
See, it wasn’t my plan to come to Colorado specifically for this place, it just kind of happened. I needed to pass some time and wanted to opt to be outside. I find a fallen tree overhanging Bear creek, and polish off an apple while watching a woman fly fish in the river.
I see a trail that connects to a larger 12 mile loop through the mountains. I check my water levels and away I go. The flies dissipate the higher I climb. I find no bears this time around, which is somewhat cruel considering the name of the park yet at the same time comforting.
I don’t see people traveling just to hike Lair O’ the Bear, as many look to see and experience more popular and famous destinations. Perhaps that is what the phrase means….
Finding pleasure in the unknown, savoring the small moments, feeling blessed in the bounty of Nature.
I do like those small things.
