The Unknown Soldier

The soft, haunting sound of Taps could be heard as I reached the top of the hill. A chilling silence from everyone except the sound of the soldier’s shoes as she marched solemnly back and forth in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Overlooking Washington D.C., I well up with emotion. You put politics to the side to honor those that have given their life for their country…your country.
To my right is a group of American Veterans from wars past. Many are in wheelchairs, their loved ones standing behind them. They have stoic looks on their faces as you can see the memories of war come flooding back.
The horrors they had witnessed, the loss of life, of friends, of time.

I can’t put into words the feeling I had standing here…

“Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God”

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
