Easy like Sunday morning. The family vacation comes to a close, but before we all go our separate ways we have one last thing to do, the dreaded family pictures.

We head on down to Treasure island beach in Laguna, California. Ironically my Corporate office is only a stones throw away, so I’m pretty familiar with the area. My newest sister-in-law hires a professional photographer to meet us here. As we park and start walking down to the ocean, Flooey tells me how pretty it is here. We sit on a bench and take it all in, my arm tightly wrapped around her as we squint into the morning glare.

I’m not a professional photographer, and in fact taking pictures of people, especially ones where we are told to smile, pose a certain way, etc…is probably right at the top of my list of “things I hate doing”.

But it is what the rest of the family wanted, so I keep quiet and oblige. Then I notice the incoming tide.

I get that certain aspects of Nature are out of our control, but I’m pretty sure that the tidal flows are pretty regular. In fact they are documented online with specific times that are accurate within minutes.

Apparently our photographer was unaware of this, as the waves came furiously crashing on the rocks around us.

Shoes were quickly kicked off to avoid getting soaked, and all of the girls pretty dresses had a nice wet ocean ring around the bottom.

The younger kids thought it was hilarious, and immediately wanted to play in the sand, skip rocks into the ocean, basically they wanted to do anything BUT get pictures taken.

Yet somehow the photographer was able to get enough quality pictures to make my Mom and my brothers wives happy.

Thus ends the family vacation for 2019.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
