“So what are you doing for the weekend?”
“I’m thinking of going to the race track, as they are having camel races.”
“Shut the front door! You’re kidding, right?”
I’m finding a bevy of unique things to do here in the Valley of the Sun.
Turf Paradise is a horse track located in Central Phoenix. As I find a place to park on a Saturday afternoon, I hear the locals remark about the large crowds…
“It’s because of the camels…”
I pay my two dollar entrance fee, and excitedly make my way to the track. It’s a gorgeous Spring day. I wander around the area waiting for the first race to start, and stumble upon today’s main attractions…
Back in 2009 on my first trip to Kenya, I had the chance to ride a camel at a children’s birthday party that we accidentally crashed. But to see them actually race would be a whole new adventure.
I then see another pen with ostriches, and a third pen with this little animal known as Zonkey, a mixed breed of zebra and donkey.
Excited anticipation was high. The first horse race was about to begin, so I make my way down to the track, and ready myself for a day at the races.

Wench, bring my ale, what say you?
